Graduation Day

I finally had my graduation last Sunday, October 30th, 2011

I was graduated from Tarumanagara University, Jakarta, major in Interior Design.

That was the 58th graduation from my campus and located in Jakarta Convention Center.

I was so excited and happy for the graduation since I can make my family, especially mom, and hopefully my late dad, proud of me.

My mom, my sister, my boyfriend, and my friends was there to congratulated me and many pictures taken.

Later I had my graduation dinner, in Caza Suki, Mahakam, South Jakarta.

Fortunately, the interior of the restaurant just been renovated by my former boss, Nobuyuki Narabayashi, from Desain9, Bali.

Great food, great design, with great people around.

What a perfect dinner to end the celebration day.

A year after..

It’s almost been a year since my dad left.

So many things have changed and happened in a year. To my family, my circumstances, and myself.

I can’t say that I’m over the sorrow yet, but I can say that I’m not mourning anymore.

I still miss him so much and I’m longing for his presence, now, here, with us.

I miss his joke, I miss his laugh, I miss his hug, I miss his wisdom, I miss his genius thoughts, I miss his kind eyes.

He was a great dad, an all-in-one dad.

He’s my walking encyclopedia, my doctor, my healer, my tutor, my friend, and now he’s my saint.

I couldn’t forgive myself for not being a really good daughter. I hadn’t made him proud of me enough. And I hadn’t do good things to him, I didn’t even had time to serve and nurse him when he was sick. I wasn’t there. Yes, I wasn’t there when he left. It might be the biggest regret in my life. And it became a wound that cannot be cured in my heart.

A year after he left..

I’m still trying to cover the wound and wipe the tears.

I survived, I’m still running my life.

I live his dreams in my own dreams.

I know it’s not the best but I will keep on trying.

After he left..

I know that he’s not going anywhere.

He stays here.

He stays in my heart.

The Island of Art, Food, and Pleasure

I haven’t post anything about Bali because I was literally had no time for blogging while I was there. Me and my classmate, Jessy Bongsu, worked at PT. Desain9 (read: Desain Sembilan) in Kerobokan, Bali. The boss is a famous Japanese interior designer Nobuyuki Narabayashi, former designer at Super Potato, Japan. He had been living in Bali for over 10 years so he can speak Indonesian fluently. Desain9 is a small interior design company with huge astonishing projects, such as The Junction, Casa del Mango, Indi-vie, and so on. Formally, I worked from 10 to 6, but in reality, the clock is ticking much longer than it should be. But no matter how long we stayed at the office, I’ve never got bored, because the atmosphere is really fun and warm. I feel like we were all family from different parents. I learned many things from this small community, from the design things to lifestyle, how to have a (my boss’ version of) balance life. We spent lots of time together, even when we were not in working time. We went karaokeing, baseball, futsal (every Friday), bowling, etc. In my last week in Bali, we went to Ubud, to stay in Jungle Villa for one night. It’s a beautiful private villa, surrounded by a real tropical jungle, with a modern ethnic interior and marvelous landscape. I was really lucky to have such oportunity to experience all those things. I really Bali, and the people, and I promise I’ll come back to Bali, very soon.

Lesson learned: We should have a balance life, and we cannot be a lazy person. We have to sketch (for designers only), we have to eat, we have to drink, we have to play, and we have to do it in equal quantities.

Apprentice Work in Bali

I'm in 6th semester now and going on 7th and I have to rearrange my plan.

I've planned to graduate in my 4th year, and it means next year. I'm very close to that!

I never thought it will come very soon, I have to get ready.

That's why I've decided to spend my mid-year holiday to work as apprentice in my uncle's Japanese friend's office in Bali.

Why Bali? Because I want to experience a different atmosphere, and increase my standard.

My mom will come with me in my first week there, but for the rest 1,5 month, I'll be all alone.

Alone in Bali? It scares me a bit. But I have to do that! I have to fight against my fear. I know I can do that.

I've booked a ticket for June 30th and will start to work July 1st.

I'm so nervous and excited at the same time.

Oh, if anyone who read this have a plan to go to Bali this holiday, please contact me.

It must be fun to meet a friend in Bali.

And I think next semester will be an exciting semester for me since I planned to do a lot of new activities, and maybe job.

Hi.. this is my latest update. I just had a car accident last Tuesday at Tol Cipularang km 87. I was a half way to Bandung in my friend’s car when a bus hit the car. Then the car climbed the road’s median before it turned 180° and stopped at the left path of the road. I was a lil’ bit shocked and I couldn’t feel any pain in my body at the first time. Luckily the road was empty at that time. If it wasn’t, maybe I won’t write this blog anymore. After my friend moved the car to the road side, we waited outside, under the rain, waited for help, and tried to call the insurance company

A few minutes later the help came. Well, I experienced some new things from that incident. First, it was the first time I sit at the police’s car. Second, it was the first time I took a U turn at the highway. Hmm.. okay, that was horrible, not something to brag about. We waited long enough at the police station for some administration stuffs. We’ve been fetched by my friend’s father and brother and I got back to the apartment around 10 pm. I felt so exhausted and dirty. The airbag pain in my neck and my left hand hurt very much. And my left back hurt too, I could’t turn my head to the left, but after some medication massage, I feel so much better. Until now, my body’s still exhausted. I skipped classes. I only laid on the sofa and watched the tv. I couldn’t even forced my brain to think. What a useless retreat. One thing for sure, I thank God that both of us survived the accident and still alive, without any serious injury. Praise the Lord!

And today, I forced myself to go to the campus because I had a hypnotherapy appointment with my lecturer at 3 pm. It’s not like the hypnotic things we usually see at the tv. A hypnotherapist helps us to communicate with the higher us. The deeper us. Our spirit. Or whatever it may called. I had so much questions in my mind, like who I really am. What’s the purpose of my life. And some other stuffs I was curious about. The session was very emotional that I cried hard enough to realized that I have so much problems deep down inside. I can’t wait till my next appointment next week. I’ve been so sensitive, lonely, and pathetic lately, so I wish this therapy will help me being happy again.

It's been a long time since my last post.

I've been so lazy to type a word. But I have to fight the laziness so I put a little effort to type a posting again.

Have I told you that I own a Holga?

A plastic lens camera. One of lomography cameras.

I've been abandoned it since I brought it to Bali last year because some battery problem.

But I attended a Lomography exhibition at Grand Indonesia at Friday

and it brought my passion of lomography back.

I bought a positive and a negative 120mm film and I can't wait to use it soon.

Here's some 35mm photos from my last trip to Bali.

But I'm a little disappointed with the result
because I can't scan the sprocket holes with my scanner.
Some of them blurred, some over-exposured, some shaked
I'm an amateur. I'll keep learning to be a better holgagrapher.

I already posted 10 posts and I just realized that I haven't introduce myself properly.

So here I am...

My name's Ratu Clemency Charissa Tunggono.

I'm a 21 years old girl. Not a lady. Not a woman yet.

I prefer to stay young by considering that I'm still young. 21 is young, rite?

I have a long not-so-black messy hair. Average face. Average height. Average weight.

I have "RATU" as my title name. Yap, my ancestor was a Bantenese.

But my other ancestor is British. The other is Chinese.

Let's just conclude that I am Indonesian.

I was born in a big city (Jakarta of course) but raised in a smaller city (yes, Bandung it is) and currently I live in that big city again but my home is still in that smaller city.

I'm studying interior design at one of known universities in Jakarta.

Many people asked me which city I prefer to live in. I never had a certain answer.

I love Jakarta. But I also love Bandung. Both is okay for me.

I have a lovely family. My mom, sister, and brother and I are very close.

My dad? He's just passed away last month.

I love him as much as I love my entire family and I'm still missing him so much.

My family is my biggest inspiration for me. Oh, I forget one thing. I'm the youngest in the family.

I love art. I love design. I love fashion.

I love everything creative.

Some friends said that I'm creative (thanks)

Some friends said that I'm stylish (thanks again)

but I'm not a shopaholic, not even a great money spender.

I spend my money carefully. I only buy things I really need and like.

I love gadgets. Who don't?

I love my macbook, blackberry, ipod, and my camera.

I like to ride a bike.

I ride my bike to campus sometimes.

As a designer, I required to love colors.

I love lime and olive green, aqua blue, turqoise, fuchsia, brown, and grey.

Yes, I love eccentric colors and neutral colors at the same time.

I like to watch tv. International channel only.

I like to watch Flight of the Conchords.

I think they're funny.

I like music.

I like Feist and The Kings of Convenience (btw, I'll watch their concert on March!!)

I like to sing.

I don't really like reading.

But I don't hate it.

I'd love to have a quality time with my family and friends.

Hangout at a coffeeshop with them is my favorite activity.

But I don't mind hangout alone. I like to go to the mall alone.

Bookstore is always my first destination.

Well I just like bookstore. Especially Aksara Bookstore.

These are my top 5 favorite movies.

They are not ordinary movies.

I just love them.

A love story between an American girl with a Cuban boy

who met when her family had to move to Cuba for her father's work.

They became partners for a dancing competition by combining a classic ballroom dance

with wild and sexy Cuban dance.

A sexy exotic romantic movie. Love Diego Luna so much!

A quirky story about a man trying to get over his ex.

But no matter how hard he tried, he can't stop remembering his love.

A lil' bit boring at the begining but over all it's a very interesting and not ordinary story.

A French action comedy movie. It's a story about a police chasing after a criminal he hates so much.

The chasing is located at Paris and one day the city became empty,

nobody there, except two of them.

A very nice unusual comedy movie. Seriously, I laughed from the begining till the end of the movie.

This is a story about two friends. One is a video rental shopkeeper (Mike) and the other (Jerry) always mess with anything he touches. One day Jerry being magnetized and ruined every single video the rent had. So they tried to get back the bussiness by making their own video.

FYI: Michel Gondry is also the director of Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind.

A very creative yet refreshing movie. Highly recommended!

Yes, this is not an ordinary love story. This is a story about a-not-ordinary love.

A beautiful Byzantine mosque. They have a typical shape, a few square buildings combined with rounded domes with sharp-pointed towers on the four sides of the building

One of the domes in Hagia Sophia mosque. It was the largest cathedral in the world for thousand years before it turned into a mosque, and now a museum. Although all of the Catholic elements were removed when they converted it into a mosque, we still can find a picture of St. Mary's figure carrying Baby Jesus at the dome.

Anıtkabir (literally, "memorial tomb") is the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the leader of the Turkish War of Independence and the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey.

A sculpture of St. Mary, mother of Jesus. It's located at Ephesus.

It's built right at the area where the latest house of Mary's found.

She lived here for the rest of her life after John took her here.

Nike Goddess Sculpture at Ephesus

Yup, it's Nike, like Nike the famous sport stuff brand. It's logo is take from the shape of her wing. In Greek ancient history, NIKE (or Nicé) was the winged goddess or spirit (daimon) of victory, both in battle and peaceful competition. No wonder why Nike use it's name for it's brand, so the user can reach victory of the sport competition. Well it's just my opinion..

It was a very large area (I don't know how large) which intended to be a place for gypsy people to gather.

But one day the area suddenly dropped about 9 meters and filled with rain and, voila!

The area turned into a lake until now

I bought it like a year ago and I haven't even read it yet.

I bought it because I'm an interior design student with a passion for product design.

How The World Makes Love - Franz Wisner

I bought it about a half year ago and I had only read the 1/3 of the book because it has blank pages so I lost my reading appetite. But don't worry, I'm gonna finish it A.S.A.P!

I bought it because I already read the first book: "Honeymoon With My Brother" and fell in love with the story so I thought the second will be as good as the first.

Chicken Soup for the Couple Soul - Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and friends

The book given to me a month ago and I had only read a couple of stories.

I didn't bought it. This is a birthday present from a friend with a note: " I gave this to you because I think you've found your Mr.Right". She gave it just in time that I think I chose the wrong guy. LOL

Young on Top - Billy Boen

I just bought it yesterday so I don't feel guilty not finishing it yet..

I'm already interested to buy this book from a long time ago but it never happened. I don't know why I finally bought it yesteday. I think it's good for my self improvement.

Eat Pray Love - Elizabeth Gilbert

I bought it yesterday too.

I bought it because, first, I'm interested to it's cover, second, it has a story about Indonesia (and Italy and India, all country started with "I"), and third, it's a bestseller book and it seems like a good book for my mind to consume.

And one more book that I left in Bandung so it doesn't appear in the picture (picture pending),

My father bought me this book the last time we went to Gramedia-MTA, around October last year maybe.

I asked him to bought me this book because I'm interested in architecture history and it's written by Romo Mangun, one of Indonesian best architect, social worker, and Indonesian Catholic church legend.

Here's my latest DI assignment.. I made a chocolate store, I named it "Chocoloco"..

The concept is Asymmetrical Pop: Asymmetrical shape combined with pop colors, on white

My favorite part is, it has a cake conveyor belt, just like what we can find at sushi bar

Don't wanna explain too much..

It's not really good perspective drawing and coloring though, I made it in hurry..
